The Power of One: More than a Slogan

When Federated Co-ops talks about the “Power of One,” it’s more than just a clever marketing slogan. It’s a statement about who Federated is, and how the co-op serves you – our patrons, our growers.

A co-op “by its very nature is the Power of One,” said Mike McMahon, Federated’s CEO. Historically, co-ops were formed when farmers and other individuals recognized the power of working together – when our “forefathers began working as one.”

Our fathers and grandfathers (even great-grandfathers) recognized the value of being stakeholders in their own economic success by forming the organization(s) that became today’s Federated Co-ops.

Federated growers have the opportunity to work in partnership with the members of the various co-op teams to achieve their goals in production agriculture. Each facet of the co-op – agronomy, energy, and retail – provides the resources growers need to effectively operate their farms.

Federated Co-ops works hard to provide the best prices on ag inputs, propane and fuel, and other retail needs. Growers who consistently tap into all three of the co-ops’ business areas find benefits beyond good prices and strong patronage payouts (last year’s payout was 10%). This year, for example, growers who buy from Federated across all three business segments can obtain a 1% discount on their interest rate for crop input financing.

“Working together makes us all more successful,” said McMahon. “We have a plan, and we will deliver on plan,” he said, which makes winners of both the co-op and the growers.

The Power of One can be as simple as getting only one invoice from Federated instead of one for agronomy purchasers here, propane and fuel buys there, and retail needs elsewhere.

The Power of One can be as valuable as the deep knowledge base offered by the agronomy team.

The Power of One can be your best farm management plan for the new year.
